Welcome to the 2016-17 American School of Warsaw 4th grade Art Class site. We meet twice a week for 40 minutes. Once we do the first couple of lessons will be dealing with getting to know each other, getting familiar with the art room, the routine and rules in the classroom. We will also be doing a few art assessments for me to get to know your child strengths and weaknesses. As soon as we start to produce some art work you will be given a short description of the project and its objectives as well as some examples of students' work.
I hope that you will enjoy seeing their work and progress throughout the year.
LINEAR LANDSCAPE
The fourth graders began this project by taking a close look at a ink drawing by VanGogh. In the drawing he used brown ink on a parchment brown paper. It showed many different lines representing different items and textures. It was also noticed that none of the items in the farming landscape showed any outlines. The repeated lines gave the illusion of an out line. These types of lines are called implied lines as the eye and the brain will put the completed outline in view even though it is not there. The students objective for this project was to draw a landscape that showed a fore, middle and background using only repeated lines. Once a particular line was used to represent a texture or item it couldn't be used again. For example, wavy lines to represent water couldn't be used again for something like the rays of the sun.
